For the past couple of weeks we’ve played with a great mockup tool – Balsamiq. It’s very impressive! The tool is based on the Adobe Air platform.

Our first test drive involved a meeting with prospective clients who have never had a web presence. They had “ideas in their head” but were struggling to communicate their requirements. Sitting down with them and Balsamiq enabled us to better understand their needs.

Versions are available for Xwiki, Jira, Confluence, and the desktop. We chose to profile the desktop version.

Balsamiq comes loaded with 75 UI controls. It truly is as simple as “drag and drop” to build your wireframe. The price is right too – $79 for a desktop license. (Volume license discounts are available.)
