There are a plethora of desktop applications to monitor and manage Twitter accounts. One of my favorite is Seesmic Desktop.  Seesmic is based on the Adobe Air platform and installs quickly and painlessly.

You can manage multiple Twitter accounts and integrate with your Facebook status updates as well. The Seesmic team keeps up to date on all the latest features, so expect updates on a frequent basis.

Seesmic provides applications for both the Android and Blackberry mobile platforms. The desktop application will run on Windows, Apple, and Linux.  There’s also a browser-based version for instant access.
